Astana will host a forum of leaders in the energy field with Secretary General of the Energy Charter Urban Rusnak, the Kazakh Oil and Gas Ministry told Trend on June 9.

"Special attention is paid to Kazakhstan's cooperation in the organization and discussion of current issues in this area," the ministry reported. "Moreover, a press conference will be held with Urban Rusnak on June 10."

Kazakhstan presides over the Energy Charter Conference in 2014. It is the first country chairing as part of the new practice of the conference presidency.

The country signed and ratified the Energy Charter Treaty in 1995.

This contract is a set of international rules designed specifically for the energy sector.

Kazakhstan's chairmanship will make a definite contribution to promote the modernization process of the Energy Charter. One of its main objectives is to fully take into account the interests of energy resource producers in the Energy Charter.

The annual session of the conference is the main governing and decision-making body of the Energy Charter.

Holding the 25th session of the Energy Charter Conference is scheduled for November in 2014 (Astana).

Some 52 world countries, namely, energy consumers and producers, as well as the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) are the conference members. The Energy Charter Secretariat is located in Brussels.
