An amnesty act, declared by the Senate of Uzbekistan's parliament in November 2014, has been implemented with respect to 52,498 people, the press secretary of Uzbekistan's Supreme Court, Aziz Abidov, told reporters March 6.
"Among those subject to the amnesty act, are 7,865 women (15 percent), 1,174 minors (2.2 percent), 681 men aged over 60 (1.3 percent) and 172 disabled (0.2 percent)," he said.
Abidov added that based on the amnesty act some 3,289 persons have been released from penal institutions.
The Senate adopted the amnesty act in connection with the 22nd anniversary of the constitution of Uzbekistan on Nov. 14, 2014.
The amnesty has been applied to the individuals who committed the crimes posing no threat for society.
The amnesty act in particular stipulates the pardoning of the sentenced women, the individuals who committed crimes being under 18 years old, men who have reached the age of 60, as well as the foreign citizens.
The amnesty also covered those convicted for the first time for taking part in the activities of banned organizations, but didn't commit serious crimes in this case and firmly embarked on the path of correction.
The act was subject to implementation within three months.
