US dollar falls in Iran, amid rising euro and pound

US dollar was sold at 33,360 rials in Iran's free market on Dec. 6, compared to 33,710 rials on Dec. 4.

Euro and pound were traded at 41,480 rials and 52,500 rials, respectively, compared to 41,680 rials and 52,730 rials on Dec. 4, Iran's IRNA news agency reported Dec. 6.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Iran put official rates of US dollar, euro and pound at 26,936 rials, 33,094 rials and 41,969 rials respectively.

During ex-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's second term, Iran's rial lost its value by about four times.

Each USD was sold at 9,830 rials in 2009, but the figure reached 36,000 in mid-2013, when Ahmadinejad was replaced by Hassan Rouhani.
