By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran has potential to export 60 percent of its zinc and lead products.

Ebrahim Jamili, member of Iran's chamber of commerce, industries, mines and agriculture said some 450,000 metric tons of zinc ingots and 420,000 metric tons of lead ingots are produced annually in the country. This is while the domestic market needs 80,000-100,000 metric tons of zinc and 100,000-120,000 metric tons of lead, Iran's IRNA news agency reported on Jan. 5.

If the full production capacity of zinc and lead is used, 60 percent of the products can be exported, he noted.

Iran produced 666,314 metric tons of zinc and lead ore in the first 8 months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-November 21, 2014).

The country's zinc and lead ore production rose by 6 percent compared to the same period in the past year.

Iran ranks among the 15 major mineral-rich countries of the world and exports its industrial and mineral products to 159 countries, including Iraq, China, the United Arab Emirates, India and Afghanistan.
