Iranian Deputy Roads and Urban Development Minister Ali Nourzad discussed the cooperation in construction projects with Turkmen officials during his visit to Ashgabat.

The parties negotiated the construction of Sarakhs (Turkmenistan) - Sarakhs (Iran) road bridge on Tedjen River, as well as Tejan-Sarakhs and Ashgabat-Turkmenabat road projects which will be constructed by participation of Iranian companies, Fars news agency reported Dec. 6.

The parties exchanged views on the current state of the projects and their implementation procedure as well as technical details.

The officials further expressed satisfaction with the process of interaction between the business communities of the two countries in various sectors and urged to further develop cooperation in this direction.

The sides also discussed the implementation of the documents, signed during Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's visit to Iran Nov. 22.

Iran and Turkmenistan signed nine memorandums of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in various sectors including health, postal service, construction of electricity transmission lines, sports, road construction, railway transport, standards, as well as Radio and TV broadcasting.

Earlier in March, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani paid a two-day official visit to Ashgabat at the invitation of President Berdimuhamedov. During the visit, Rouhani announced that Iran and Turkmenistan have decided to increase the total value of their economic exchange to $60 billion in the coming decade.

The value of bilateral trade between Iran and Turkmenistan exceeded $4 billion in 2014.
