Iran's tourist arrivals growth 3 times more than global average

Iran's top tourism official says during last two years, the foreign tourist arrivals growth in the country was three times more than the global averages.

Iran's Vice-President and President of Iran Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) Massoud Soltani said that during last two year the tourism growth globally was 4.6 percent annually, but in Iran the figure stood at 12 percent, IRNA reported Dec.31.

He didn't give details and numbers or foreign tourists who visited Iran, but said that Iran has prepared a post-sanctions package, including 900 tourism projects with 300 trillion rials worth (about $8 billion) -developed by 45 percent so far - to absorb more tourists.

Local news agency Mehr has reported that Iran has 1,100 hotels - 130 of them have four and five stars.

Iran plans to triple the number of hotels in the country by 2025.

Experts believe that by 2025, the number of the tourists arriving in Iran will increase from five million to 20 million.
