EU companies willing to fund Iran LNG project

International companies expressed readiness to invest in the Iran LNG project, Alireza Kameli the managing director of National Iranian Gas Exports Company said July 26.

He added that the technical appraisals will be completed in three months, Shana news agency reported.

"Iran LNG" is the name of an LNG plant. Iran started construction of that plant before 2012, but stopped after the impose of sanctions. Iran has invested $2.5 billion into this project, which is 50 percent complete by far.

The capacity of this project is producing 10 million tons of LNG per year. Some $2.5 billion has been invested into the project, $2.5 billion more is needed for completion of the project.

"Some of foreign companies have announced readiness to establish the joint ventures to develop LNG projects in Iran,” said Kameli.

He further said that European and Asian companies expressed willingness to complete the project, adding that South Korea’s Kogas recently signed a memorandum of understanding with NIGEC to participate in the project.

Iran also has two other LNG projects. Pars LNG and Persian LNG projects which aimed to produce 25 million tons of LNG annually.
