Iran gov't spends $63B on welfare annually

The Iranian government is spending 2 quadrillion rials ($63 billion USD) on social welfare annually, Minister of Cooperative, Labor, and Social Welfare Ali Rabiee said.

That covers 400 trillion rials on cash subsidies, 370 trillion on pension funds, 480 trillion rials on health, 400 trillion rials aid to education, including higher education, 100 trillion rials as subsidies on bread, 100 trillion rials to Veterans Organization, as well as 750 trillion rials that goes to the Social Security Organization, the minister said, IRNA news agency reported October 25.

The incumbent government identified 170,000 children who suffered from malnutrition and currently they are receiving one hot meal a day each, he said.
