Iran has started building the first section of a freeway that connects Tabriz, East Azerbaijan Province to Bazargan border point in West Azerbaijan Province in western Iran.
The section will connect Tabriz to Marand, East Azerbaijan and stretches over 36 kilometers with three lanes in each direction, IRNA news agency reported April 7.
The construction of the section includes drilling two tunnels and building 18 big bridges. The section is set to be completed in 36 months.
It is said the section will cost 32.66 trillion rials ($2.88 billion). The operation period during which the contractor will collect taxes from the section will be 15 years.
