Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has urged Iranian officials to observe laws in the upcoming elections to be held in late February.

He also called for a high turnout in the upcoming elections for parliament and the Assembly of Experts, and called on the election officials to remain vigilant regarding their duties, ISNA news agency reported Jan. 20.

"I mean I call on the people, who don't accept the establishment and the system, to come and vote, but not sending those people into parliament," he said addressing a group of Iranian officials in charge of the elections.

He also urged people to refrain from accusing or insulting the country's legal bodies.

"I do not say they are without mistakes. However making mistakes should not be a tool for weakening them," he added.

Iranians are getting ready to elect both law makers for parliament and clerics for the Assembly of Experts on February 26.

Touching upon the nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers, Khamenei thanked President Hassan Rouhani's administration for the achievement and said although the deal did not meet Iran's all demands, it was a significant development.

He also spoke about the detaining of US sailors, who recently trespassed into Iranian waters, and said the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) "did the right thing".

The IRGC Navy's Public Relations Department, in a statement released on Jan. 13, declared that the US navy boats entered Iranian territorial waters near Farsi Island in the Persian Gulf illegally.

The sailors were released later following investigations.

Khamenei also spoke about the storming of the embassies of the Saudi Arabia and the UK, describing them as "very bad actions". However, he said this shouldn't be used as a means to criticize the youth, who are faithful to the Islamic Republic and the Islamic revolution.

Following Saudi Arabia's early January execution of a prominent Shia Cleric Nimr al-Nimr, a group of angry Iranian protestors stormed Saudi embassy in Tehran, smashing furniture and setting fire to the building before being dispersed by police.

Earlier, in 2011, the UK embassy in Tehran was closed after it was stormed by protesters during a demonstration against sanctions. However, in August 2015, the embassy was reopened.
