An Israeli airstrike killed a 10-year-old child in Gaza City Friday, the first death reported since a 72-hour truce expired at 0500 GMT, Palestinian medics said.

"A 10-year-old was killed in an Israeli airstrike on a mosque in Sheikh Radwan," a northern Gaza City neighborhood, emergency services spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told AFP.

Qudra noted that another six people, one of them a woman, were wounded in the same attack.

Israel announced earlier it had targeted "terror sites" in the Gaza Strip in response to a barrage of Palestinian rockets fired towards its territory shortly after the cease-fire ended.

A statement from the Israeli army said a civilian was moderately wounded and a soldier lightly wounded by a rocket that hit southern Israel.

Since 0500 GMT, 26 rockets fired from Gaza had hit Israel, with another three intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system and another four falling short in the Strip, the army said.

The four-week Gaza conflict has killed at least 1,890 Palestinians, and 67 people have died on the Israeli side, almost all soldiers.
