Tbilisi, Georgia, Dec.3

The GUAM Parliamentary Assembly has adopted two documents. The first is a communiqué of GUAM member states. Alongside there was adopted a statement. The Parliamentary Assembly comprises the Baltic states and Poland.
The documents reflect the main goals of GUAM member states. There was attention paid to issues related to regional conflicts.
"The document reflects the support towards the Eastern Partnership programme. The success of Moldova and Georgia is apparent. In addition, these two countries and Ukraine are mentioned as the ones that reached the initialling stage. The documents emphasise that no single state has a right to intervene in the choice of sovereign and independent countries," Chairman of GUAM PA Zurab Abashidze said.
A significant part of the documents is dedicated to the conflicts related to the GUAM member states.
"Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova face this problem. The documents condemn the presence of other country's armed forces in the territories of these states. Additionally, in accordance with Georgia's demand, the documents were included in the issue of installing wire fence along the occupied line that has been condemned in the adopted documents," Abashidze said.
The two-day meeting is being held in Tbilisi. Currently, Georgia is the acting chairman of the organisation.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
