Kazakh and Chinese Foreign Ministers, Kanat Saudabayev and Yang Jiechi, discussed coordinating efforts in Astana today within international organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the United Nations and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia.

"We discussed the need for further coordination of our efforts in the international arena within the SCO, the UN and the CICA, as well as in other formats in the Asia-Pacific region", Kazakh Foreign Minister Saudabayev said after talks with his Chinese counterpart.

He said the two sides unanimously called for strengthening the SCO.

"We talked about our participation in the events to mark the 10th SCO anniversary, which will be held next year in Kazakhstan, as well as in 2012 in China," Saudabayev said.

The ministers also addressed the need for concrete actions to enhance cooperation between the two countries. Special attention was paid to large-scale infrastructure projects in the oil and gas sectors, the field of renewable energy sources, diversification of trade, expanding exports of Kazakh agricultural production, particularly grain, to China.

These and other aspects of further cooperation were reflected in the Memorandum of Cooperation for 2011 - 2013 between the Kazakh and Chinese Foreign Ministries, which was signed by the Ministers after the talks.
