OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Audronius Azubalis during the visit to Baku intends to find out the country's leadership opinion and position on the results of the Sochi meeting of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia.

"This is my fourth visit to Azerbaijan. However, it differs from previous ones: this time I visit the country as the OSCE Chairman- in-Office. One of the main objectives of the visit is to learn the position and opinion of the Azerbaijani leadership on the outcome of the last meeting of the presidents in Sochi", Azubalis told reporters upon arrival in the capital of Azerbaijan on Sunday.

Presidents of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia Ilham Aliyev, Dmitry Medvedev and Serzh Sargsyan met at the Krasnaya Polyana ski resort near Sochi on March 5.

After the talks, the presidents of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia adopted a joint statement on the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement. The document stresses the desire to resolve all disputed issues by peaceful means and to investigate possible incidents along the ceasefire line, with the participation of the parties under the aegis of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmen with the assistance of the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman.

Also, according to Azubalis, issues of security, stability and cooperation included in the agenda of the OSCE will be discussed during the visit.

Talking about the murder of an Azerbaijani child after the Armenian armed forces opened fire on the conflict line, Azubalis stressed that that any human death is a tragedy.

"The death of a child is even greater tragedy. This once again shows importance of withdrawing snipers from the contact line between the armed forces" he said.

A 9-year-old resident of the Orta Garvand village in the Agdam region was killed on March 8 as a result of a ceasefire violation by Armenian troops. Fariz Badalov was shot in the head while playing in his yard. He was taken to hospital, but doctors failed to save his life.

During his visit Azubalis intends to meet the president of Azerbaijan, foreign minister, representatives of political parties and civil society of the country.

Azubalis will visit Baku on March 13-14, Georgia - on March 15-16, and Yerevan - on March 17-18, the OSCE said earlier. Also he intends to meet president of Armenia and Georgian Prime Minister. The current visit is the first of the OSCE Chairperson from Lithuania to the region.

Progress towards resolution of protracted conflicts in the OSCE region is a key priority of Lithuania's OSCE Chairmanship. Azubaliswill discuss the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement process, co-operation with the OSCE, particularly with its offices in Yerevan and Baku, supporting reforms, and efforts within the Geneva discussions.
