Army should not interfere in the country's politics in any case, Anadolu agency quotes Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, Besir Atalay as saying on Monday.

According to Atalay, politicians should engage in politics, and the army should engage in strengthening of the country's defense.

On Friday, Istanbul Court passed a sentence on military coup preparation (the so-called 'Balyoz Herekati' (Sledgehammer coup plan)).

According to the verdict, former commander of the first Field Army retired Gen. Cetin Dogan, former commander of the Turkish Navy, Admiral Ozden Ornek and former Air Force Commander Gen. Ibrahim Firtina received life sentence.

According to the assumptions of the pro-governmental newspaper "Taraf," the Turkish Armed Forces prepared a plan "Sledgehammer" to overthrow the government in 2010.

According to this plan, the country's armed forces were to overthrow the government after the chaos that was to take place in the country post-bombings near Istanbul mosques, Fatih Camisi and Bayazid, an attack on a military museum, and the destruction of several Turkish fighters. According to the newspaper, the plan, created in 2002-2003, was signed by former General of the Turkish Armed Forces Cetin Dogan. After the coup, mass arrests were to begin.

The newspaper reported that the authors of the document are high-ranking military suspected of involvement in the "Ergenekon" plan, which aims to overthrow the government. About 200 politicians, journalists, lawyers, teachers, military and policemen were also involved in this case.
