The Egyptian government demands Israel to stop construction of the Jewish settlements in Jerusalem and the West Bank of Jordan River, "Al-Jazeera" reports on Saturday.
The Egyptian government explains it with the fact that the continued construction of the Jewish settlements in Jerusalem and the West Bank negative affects the peace negotiations between the parties.
Earlier Grand Imam of Egypt, Ahmed al-Tayeb said that continuation of the construction of Jewish settlements in the occupied Palestinian lands contradict peace talks and poses a great threat to peace.
Palestinian-Israeli peace talks were suspended two years ago. The Palestinians refuse to resume the talks until Israel does not stop settlement activity in the occupied territories of the West bank of Jordan and East Jerusalem.
Israel, in turn, offers to resume dialogue without preconditions.
