Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov will pay an official visit to Iran discuss regional issues, particularly the Syrian situation, Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Reza Sajjadi says, Press TV reported.

He added that Bogdanov would travel to Tehran for a two-day visit at the invitation of Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on April 24.

Iran and Russia has always held political consultations on different matters, particularly on issues of mutual interest such as Afghanistan, Iraq and the Middle East, he noted.

"Russia and Iran have always had concerns about the future of Syria and opposed foreign interference and the imposing of [an] intervention on Syrians," Sajjadi said.

He noted that the two sides would also discuss issues pertaining to the Middle East, Libya and Bahrain.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of security personnel, have been killed in the violence.

Damascus says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of militants are foreign nationals.
