Egypt's interim President Adly Mansour announced on Saturday that a referendum on a draft constitution will be held on January 14-15, marking the first major step in the country's military-backed political transition, dpa reported.
"This constitution confirms to the world that Egypt is moving on the right path," Mansour said at a televised ceremony.
He called on Egyptians to turn out in large numbers.
The charter, drafted by a mostly secular panel, is devoid of the Islamist references that marked a disputed constitution adopted last year, when the now-toppled president Mohammed Morsi was in office.
Mansour took office after the army deposed Morsi in July, following massive street protests against his one-year rule.
