Kazakhstan expects an apology from Kuwait for the national anthem parody during the award of shooting competition winners, deputy chairman of the Agency for Sports and Physical Culture Ilsiyar Kanagatov said at a press briefing in Astana on Wednesday.

"Now we are waiting for an official apology from the Ministry of Sports of Kuwait with a detailed explanation of what happened," Kanagatov said.

The tournament organisers mixed the national anthem of Kazakhstan with the national anthem parody from the Borat movie at the International Shooting Grand Prix. Kazakhstan sent a complaint to the Olympic Council of Asia in this regard after which the organisers of the competition in Kuwait sent a letter of apology to the Federation of shooting sports in Kazakhstan.

"We have taken immediate measures on the case. Very sorry about what happened and assure you that we always treated your federation with special respect, your athletes and your beautiful country," a letter said .

Kanagatov said a company engaged in the organisation of the event just downloaded the national Kazakhstan anthem parody from the Internet.

"The DJ searched for the national anthem of Kazakhstan on the Internet and the first published reference was the anthem parody of from the movie Borat," head coach of the Kazakhstan national shooting team Anvar Yunusmetov, who attended the briefing, said in Astana.

Earlier, the organisers of Kuwait shooting competition apologised for confusing the anthem of Kazakhstan during the award of the Kazakh winner.
