Russia and Kazakhstan implement some joint projects at Baikonur Cosmodrome, Russian Federal Space Agency Roscosmos reported.
"According to the reached agreements, a number of joint projects are implemented. Moreover, the promising areas of cooperation are developing," Roscosmos said.
Russia and Kazakhstan are carrying out a large-scale modernization of Cosmodrome's existing space infrastructure such as technical and launch complexes, gas stations, airport, railway network and other support facilities. The modernization work at Baikonur is a part of Russian Federal Space Program.
"All these works give reason to rank Baikonur among the most developed cosmodromes all over the world," Roscosmos said.
Currently, Russia and Kazakhstan continue dialogue to find a mutually acceptable solution on creation of Baiterek space rocket complex at Baikonur Cosmodrome.
The Baikonur Cosmodrome is the world's first and largest operational space launch facility. It is located in the desert steppe of Kazakhstan. It is leased by the Kazakh government to Russia (currently until 2050) and is managed jointly by the Russian Federal Space Agency and the Russian Space Forces. Under the current Russian space program, Baikonur remains a busy space port, with numerous commercial, military and scientific missions being launched annually.
A contract on establishing the Russia-Kazakhstan Baiterek Joint Venture was signed in 2004. Each country holds a 50-percent stake in the project. Baiterek space rocket complex should facilitate operations of the Russian Angara rocket launcher.
