About six or seven years ago, Iran had the capability of producing intercontinental missiles with 5,000-7,000 km range, that would be able to reach America from the Middle East, expert on nuclear issues, Reza Taghizadeh told Trend.
The expert was commenting on recent U.S. intellegence report on Iran not presently possessing enough capability of creating ballistic missiles until 2015.
"Iran's production of missiles with a range of over 2,000 kilometers was stopped due to international concerns," Taghizadeh said.
The expert noted that the world community has concerns regarding a missile that could carry an object of mass destruction with it.
"Iran has always stated that it is not seeking to make a nuclear bomb," Taghizadeh said. "However, the current report has shown that Iran's nuclear program, along with its missile development programs have caused serious concerns in the world community."
Earlier today, Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh said that Iran still possesses technology to produce missiles with more than a 2,000-kilometer range.
Taghizadeh said that a question remains, why a country like Iran, that does not pursue nuclear weapons, would be producing ballistic missiles.
