A high-ranking Iranian IRGC general Mohammad Jamalizadeh Paghaleh was killed in Syria, Mehr news agency reported.
Reportedly, the general, who was also the member of IRGC's Qods force, did not go to Syria officially, but voluntarily. Jamalizadeh was killed by Syrian opposition, which Mehr called as Takfiri groups.
Paghaleh was one of IRGC commanders during the Iran-Iraq war. After war he served in Kerman Province's Commission Against Smuggling.
He will be buried tomorrow in his hometown of Eastern Iranian city of Kerman.
Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since March 2011, with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees putting the number of Syrian refugees at two million.
The UN refugee agency further said some 4.2 million people have also been displaced inside Syria since the beginning of the conflict in the Arab country.
Iran is a close ally of the Syrian government and it always shows its support for the regime of Syrian President Bashar al Assad.
