Today Iran marks the Student Day in the country, and president Hassan Rouhani spoke to the students at the Shahid Beheshti university in Tehran, IRINN tv channel reported live on Dec. 7.

Student Day is the anniversary of the murder of three students of University of Tehran on December 7, 1953 (16 Azar 1332 in the Iranian calendar) by Iranian police in the Pahlavi era.

Every year there are local demonstrations at many universities organised by students. It is commemorated both by religious and secular student movements.

Rouhani spoke of Iran's progress in science, and noted that the students of universities in the country should continue enriching their scientific knowledge, and stand against colonialism and dictatorship.

He also underscored that any possible intervention in Iran's domestic policy by foreign forces should be foreseen and prevented.

Rouhani then spoke of the nuclear program of Iran, noting that a successful deal between Iran and P5+1 group in Geneva angered Israel but was welcomed by Iran's allies.

Iran signed a nuclear deal with the P5+1 group in Geneva on Nov. 24, which signals first positive action step taken in recent years. The U.S. and its Western allies suspect Iran of developing a nuclear weapon - something that Iran denies. The Islamic Republic has on numerous occasions stated that it does not seek to develop nuclear weapons, using nuclear energy for medical researches instead.

"Our motto is to improve people's wealth, and also make sure country's centrifuges are active," Rouhani said. "Atomic energy, as well as nuclear technologies and enriching uranium are our rights."

Further speaking, Rouhani said the government has increased the budget for country's Innovation and development fund from $8.3 million to $166 million.

Iran's innovation and development fund supports various creative projects that are implemented within Iran's Danesh Bonyan company group.
