Two policemen and two insurgents were killed in clashes in the town of Baquba, 57 kilometres north-east of the capital Baghdad, security sources told dpa.

Elsewhere, four army soldiers were killed Sunday in an attack by unknown gunmen at a checkpoint in the western city of Faluja, reported the Iraqi news agency Al Bughdadia.

Meanwhile, one person died and three were wounded when a car bomb exploded in the northern city of Mosul, security sources said.

The car was parked in a shopping area in Mosul, 400 kilometres north of Baghdad. Several stores were also damaged, they said.
