The Georgian government has approved a bill on "Living genetically modified organisms".
The turnover of seeds produced from genetically modified organisms is growing in the world annually, Georgian Minister of Environment Khatuna Gogaladze said after a government meeting on Thursday.
The minister said that the purpose of the bill is to create a single state system of biosafety that will regulate the use of living genetically modified organisms.
According to the bill, a license will be required to use these organisms.
The scope of the bill applies only to the living genetically modified organisms and does not apply to genetically modified food and medicaments.
