Hong Kong health authorities reported a death case of influenza A/H1N1 on Monday, raising the total number of such death cases in the city to 49, Xinhua reported.
The case reported on Monday involved a 57-year-old man who had a history of hypertension, hyperlipidemia and heart disease, the Hospital Authority said.
The patient developed fever and cough on Dec. 11 and sought emergency medical help at a local hospital on Dec. 15. He was admitted to the isolation ward, followed by a positive test result for the influenza A/H1N1 on Dec. 16.
His condition deteriorated on Dec. 17 and was transferred to the intensive care unit and put on ventilation support. The patient died on Monday.
The Hospital Authority also reported a critical case of the flu involving a 30-year-old female patient.
