Moscow city court sentenced a former member of the Federal Council, the upper house of Russia's parliament, life imprisonment on charge of terrorism, local media reported on Tuesday.

Moscow city court sentenced a former member of the Federal Council, the upper house of Russia's parliament, life imprisonment on charge of terrorism, local media reported on Tuesday.
  
Igor Izmestiev, 44, who came from the republic of Bashkortostan, was charged of twenty acts of terrorism, including 12 contract murders, attempted murder of the son of the then president of Bashkortostan, arson, bribery, tax evasion and other criminal acts, Xinhua reported.
  
According to local reports, Izmestiev has been heading a 12-strong organized criminal group since 1992.
  
The gang group had also tried to establish its full control over three oil refineries in the republic of the southern Urals.
  
Izmestiev was arrested in January 2007.
  
So far, members of the group have also been sentenced to imprisonment from 5 to 24 years.
