ISIL threatens to 'slaughter' families of American troops: Pentagon

The Pentagon has warned the family members of American soldiers to be cautious due to the latest deadly threats by the ISIL terrorist group, Press TV reported.

A bulletin by the US Army intelligence said the terror network urged supporters to find addresses of the families of troops and to "show up [at their homes] and slaughter them," Fox News reported on Thursday.

"Given the continued rhetoric being issued by ISIL's media services and supporters through various social media platforms the ARTIC (the Army Threat Integration Center) is concerned of the possibility of an attack," according to the assessment.

"Soldiers, Government Civilians and Family Members are reminded to be vigilant of their surroundings and report suspicious activities to their respective military or local law enforcement," it said.

The bulletin also added that it provides renewed emphasis on force protection measures to ensure the safety and security of our DOD components, defense critical infrastructure, personnel and communities.

The Pentagon launched airstrikes against ISIL targets in Iraq in August. A US-led coalition also began military campaign against the group in Syria last month.

Earlier his week, former secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff warned that ISIL could strike the United States in retaliation to the bombings.

"At some point, particularly as we begin to put pressure on ISIS (or ISIL), they're going to feel the need to respond for two reasons: try to intimidate us to draw back but also to show us their adherence that they are capable of giving as well as getting," Chertoff said.

President Barack Obama vowed to "degrade and ultimately destroy" the terror organization, which has executed two American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff.
