Group smuggling narcotics from Iran to Azerbaijan sentenced to 43 years in jail

Azerbaijani court issued a decision upon a group smuggling drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan.

The court sentenced Jalilabad residents Elsever Guliyev and Nazim Jafarov to 13 and 10 years in jail, Shirvan residents Sakit Yagubov and Rahman Bagirov to 10 years each in jail, Serious Crimes Court told Trend .   

The afore-said individuals smuggled drugs to Azerbaijan through Jalilabad region in cooperation with Iranian citizens Jalil and Giyas with name.  

The group members were detained by officers of the Central Drug Combat Department while attempting to sell over 10 kilograms of hashish at $50,000 in Nizami district of Baku.

The investigation revealed that Elsever Guliyev was kept as hostage for ten days by Jalil in Iran a month before his arrest as Guliyev did not fully pay for the drugs he bought earlier.
