Court issues decision on group smuggling narcotics from Iran to Azerbaijan

A court has issued a sentence on organized group who smuggled narcotics from Iran to Azerbaijan.  

The Serious Crimes Court sentenced Khosrov Nusratov and Elmaddin Hamdadov to 12 years and Heydar Madatov to one year in jail.  

On February 9, residents of Astara region Khosrov Nusratov, Elmaddin Hamdamov and Heydar Madatov, as well as an Iranian citizen, whose identity is being investigated, smuggled more than 50 kilograms of hashish to Azerbaijan from Iran bypassing border and customs controls.

Under prior agreement, Hamdamov received drugs from Iranian citizen and handed them to Nusratov in the village Kizhaba of Astara region. Criminals were detained while transporting hashish in a VAZ-2107 car driven by Madatov. Search in the car by security ministry officials in the city of Lankaran revealed 50.171 grams of hashish.

The group is charged with Article 206 (smuggling) and 234 (illegal purchase or possession of narcotics for sale, manufacture, production, processing, transport or transfer) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
