The discovery of large reservoir of gas in Absheron field in Azerbaijani sector of Caspian Sea is a great achievement for the people of Azerbaijan and for future Caspian potential energy sources for Europe, Ariel Cohen, Leading expert of the Heritage Foundation for Russian and Eurasian Studies and International Energy Policy, member of Trend Expert Council, believes.
"The discovery requires expedited time line for the development of Nabucco or other pipelines to export these resources to European markets as an alternative to Gasprom gas. It is crucial for European Union energy companies to provide leadership in this field", Cohen told Trend. .
Today, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev briefed about discovery of large gas reserves on the Absheron field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.
