Documents have been signed today between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, which show that Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan cooperation is developing dynamically, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said after talks with Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev in Almaty on Thursday, Kazinform reported.
"Our two countries have common roots, we belong to the Turkic world. We have similar language, culture and traditions. All these advantages should be used for our relations," he said.
Nazarbayev said the Azerbaijani diaspora in Kazakhstan consists of 130,000 people.
"This is a good bridge for our mutual cooperation. Azerbaijanis contribute to Kazakhstan's development and actively participate in all spheres of our society. That is, there is a basis for cooperation," Nazarbayev noted.
He said both countries cooperate at the international level, within the UN, OSCE.
"We have identical positions in all these organizations. So we have similar views on strengthening the UN's role in matters of war and peace. We stand for cooperation with the European Union. We also share the view that cooperation and integration in the CIS continued on mutual benefit terms," he said.
"I believe these negotiations will be a new impetus to our relationship. We have already signed 60 documents that form the legal basis for the Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan talks," Nazarbayev said.
