Azerbaijan starts mass production of decoders for digital TV

Computer producer KUR is launching mass production of decoders for digital television, told Trend in KUR.

The new device will arrive at assembly line in December and on the market in January 2012 under the brand Prestije. Prestije decoder supports both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4.

The manufacturer determined the initial cost of decoders at 75 manat. Launching into production at the facilities of the plant will significantly reduce their cost and make them more accessible to the population. Pre-decoders will be available at a cost of 30-40 manat.

DVB-T-decoders increased sales will depend on the needs of population. For this purpose, KUR has launched large-scale action, and is negotiating with a network of metropolitan retail sales of household appliances.

The development of digital broadcasting in Azerbaijan is one of the priority tasks of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, which intends to distribute digital broadcasting throughout the country the near future.

The transition to digital television in Azerbaijan envisages replacing of the analog signal to digital. Production Association Teleradio already built a network infrastructure that allows covering 85 percent of the population by digital TV. Coverage remote areas and towns of the country by digital signal is expected before the end of 2012.

Analog transmissions will be terminated after the complete transition to digital broadcasting, which, according to the work plan of the Ministry will take place in 2013.
For the transition to digital broadcasting subscribers will need to purchase a decoder.
