Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry appreciates the cooperation from the Hungarian side for the return of Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov to his homeland, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev told Trend.
"Azerbaijan has been working in this direction for some time and we greatly appreciate the cooperation of Hungary in this matter," Abdullayev said.
Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov was convicted earlier in Hungary and has now returned to Azerbaijan.
Ramil Safarov was born on August 25, 1977 in the Jabrail region of Azerbaijan. Safarov, 34, who participated in NATO exercises in 2004 in Hungary, was charged with the murder of Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan, who insulted the Azerbaijani flag. By the verdict of the Budapest court, Safarov was sentenced to life imprisonment without the right of pardon during 30 years.
