Holding such an important event as the Internet Governance Forum (IGF-2012) in Baku, in parallel with the telecommunications exhibition BakuTel will serve to strengthening of international cooperation of business circles, French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Pascal Meunier said at the reception in the country's Embassy in Azerbaijan yesterday.
The reception was attended by Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Elmir Velizade, representatives of Azerbaijani and French companies operating in the field of telecommunications and IT.
In his welcome address, Meunier highly assessed the level of relations between France and Azerbaijan, and emphasized enhancing cooperation between business circles of the two countries in various fields, including in the field of information and communication technologies.
"Cooperation of Azerbaijani and French companies in the field of ICT becomes more and more solid. Independent Azerbaijan with rich history is a friendly European country, located at the junction of East and West. We are ready to work with Azerbaijan and want to see it as one of our partners in this field," Meunier said.
He said Azerbaijan today claims to be a regional leader in the field of ICT, as repeatedly emphasized by Communications and Information Technologies Minister Ali Abbasov.
"Information technologies are one of the important tools contributing to the development of countries. ICT sector in Azerbaijan is supported at government level, and a striking example of this is organization of the IGF Forum at a high-level, which is of special importance," Meunier said.
