Azerbaijan, Baku, August 27 /Trend, H.Valiyev/

The cof the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan has mobilised around 24 GPS stations for studying horizontal movements of the earth's crust, according to a message from the Republican Seismological Centre on Monday.

The total number of GPS stations will amount to 25 and will be included in the general system of space geodesy with satellite signal reception.

The centre plans to install another station in the Saatli region in the near future.
Currently, the centre conducts work on studying horizontal movements of the earth crust. WGPS stations give an opportunity to determine the displacement of the earth's crust caused by earthquakes in the region and to measure very weak fluctuations of crust accurately.

All measurement data submitted to the computer centre, are filled with other types of measurements and are used to anticipate the areas of high seismic activity.
