The result of the presidential election in Azerbaijan was expected, head of the Political Innovation and Technology Center, political analyst Mubariz Ahmedoglu believes.

"What happened, was expected," Ahmedoglu said on Thursday via the Baku-Moscow video bridge on the topic 'Results of presidential election in Azerbaijan and their influence to development of Azerbaijani-Russian relations'.

According to him, the fact that the Azerbaijani people voted for Ilham Aliyev, was the result of his great work done in recent years.

The election was held at a high standard, Ahmedoglu said.

"Everything went fine, democratically. There are some opinions about violations, but it is inherent to every election," he said.

The political analyst also underscored high evaluation of the election by observers.

According to West University's professor, political analyst Fikrat Sadikhov, by electing Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani people supported the current president's course.

"Azerbaijani people made ​​a choice in favour of the dynamic development... in favour of strengthening our country's role in the world," Sadikhov said.

According to him, Azerbaijan has been successfully developing in recent years, and has become the region's leader in many areas.

Sadikhov went on to add that the country has good relationships and is well respected by other countries, and the election results show that the Azerbaijani people are satisfied with this state of affairs.

Presidential election was held in Azerbaijan on October 9. According to the results announced by Azerbaijani Central Election Commission after the processing of ballots from 99.53 percent of polling stations, Ilham Aliyev gained 3,118,287 votes (84.59 percent).
