Azerbaijani sabre fencer Sevil Bunyadova advanced to the 1/8 finals of the competitions as part of the first European Games in Baku.
Bunyadova gained a victory over Polish athlete Magdalena Pasternak with a score of 15: 4 in the 1/16 final.
Bunyadova will compete with Russian athlete Maria Riedel in the next stage of the competitions.
Another Azerbaijani representative Fatima Ibrahimova lost to Italian athlete Rebecca Gargano with a score of 6:15.
The European Games kicked off in Baku June 12 and will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.
More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
