Azerbaijan reduces cattle import from Georgia by over a quarter

Georgia exported 8,980 metric tons of live cattle worth $22.79 million to Azerbaijan in January-August, 2014, Georgia 's National Statistical Service (GeoStat) said in its report.

The share of this product in the total volume of Georgia 's exports to Azerbaijan stood at 6.02 percent during the reporting period, according to GeoStat.

The volume of cattle exports from Georgia to Azerbaijan dropped by 26.3 percent or by 3,120 metric tons (25.8 percent) in January-August 2014, compared to the same period of 2013. By comparison, some 12,100 metric tons of live cattle worth of $30.94 million was exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan in January-August 2013.

Azerbaijan accounted for 19.8 percent of Georgia 's exports in the first eight months of 2014. Georgia exported $378.1 million worth of goods to Azerbaijan in the period. The export to Azerbaijan decreased by 19.2 percent compared to the same period of 2013.

By comparison, $467.81 million worth of Georgian goods were exported to Azerbaijan in the first eight months of 2013.

Azerbaijan ranks first among the countries to which Georgia exports its products, followed by Armenia ($202.38 million), Russia ($184.24 million), Turkey ($158.06 million) and the U.S. ($ 144.06 million).
