Creation of a free trade zone on the territory of the Baku International Sea Trade Port will turn it into a major transport and logistics center, director general of the port Taleh Ziyadov told reporters March 18.
He said that the decree signed by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev March 17 is an integral part of the strategy to turn the port into a hub.
"This document gives an impetus to turn Baku into one of the world port centers and creates the legal basis for this," said Ziyadov.
He went on to add that the necessary legal framework will be prepared within six months with the attraction of foreign experts.
"We hope that this free trade area will start working at full capacity already in 2017 and turn the Baku International Sea Trade Port into one of the largest transport and logistic centers," said Ziyadov.
