The biggest cement producer in the South Caucasus - Azerbaijani company Norm Sement - annually produces two million tons of cement and five million tons of clinker per day, commercial director of the plant Norm Sement Fuad Musayev told Trend on June 20.
He said that the plant produces five varieties of “Class” grade cement.
“We plan to introduce new technologies in the production of concrete in Azerbaijan,” he noted. “The development of the Azerbaijani cement industry began in 1951, but modern technologies are not fully applied in Azerbaijan. As a result, the use of concrete in the country is low. Meanwhile, concrete is the most flexible, technological and widespread building material in the world. We want to increase the scale of concrete use in Azerbaijan.”
“Increasing the use of concrete contributes to import substitution,” he added. “For example, concrete may easily replace imported granite, and, in addition, it has higher performance indicators, compared to many other building materials. We want to increase the use of concrete in the country through the introduction of new technologies that the plant plans to acquire abroad."
He went on to say, "At the same time, we plan to adopt the advanced experience of Western countries, first of all Germany, which is an industrial leader in Europe. In this regard, we are supported by the Association of German Cement Manufacturers. Recently, the consumption of concrete in Azerbaijan has greatly increased, because it, as an effective building material, reduces construction costs. That is, by reducing construction costs, we will be able to increase the volume of construction, and this will provide a greater level of urbanization and efficiency in this area.”
The commercial director noted that the plant plans to acquire and introduce new technologies from Europe in the field of concrete use in the near future.
Baku hosts the first international conference on concrete technologies titled “Modern Concrete Technologies and Construction Directions in Azerbaijan”, which is held upon initiative of, and is organized by, the Norm Sement plant and the international magazine CPI Worldwide.
Over 100 foreign companies are taking part in the event.
