BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 5. Switzerland has financed development projects in Azerbaijan worth approximately CHF 105 million to date, ranging from humanitarian assistance in the early years (1994) to economic technical cooperation in more recent years, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) told Trend.
SECO said it funded approximately CHF 72 million of this.
SECO is the federal government’s center of expertise for core issues relating to economic policy. Its aim is to ensure sustainable economic growth, high employment and fair working conditions by providing a stable environment for regulatory, economic and foreign trade policy.
SECO focuses on eight business lines:
- Growth-promoting economic policy
- Rules-based trade system
- Innovation-friendly business environment
- Urban development and infrastructure services
- Access to financing
- Integration in value chains
- Corporate Social Responsibility
- Market-oriented skills
SECO implements roughly 300 programs and projects each year in 13 priority countries in the south and in the east. In some developing countries, SECO supports other federal agencies with complementary measures. SECO’s activities focus on the long term. Gender equality as well as climate and resource efficiency are systematically considered.
