Azerbaijan to amend its legislation for full digitalization of ID cards

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 17. Azerbaijan's legislation will be amended due to the full digitalization of state certificates of birth, marriage, and death, as well as IDs, by the end of this year, the Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan Rashad Nabiyev told reporters, Trend reports.

According to him, the mentioned documents (certificates and identity documents) constitute approximately 40 percent of all government services provided to citizens and society in connection with key life events.

The minister also noted that by the end of this year, more than 250 new acts will be introduced into legislation, and corresponding changes related to the full digitization of the mentioned documents will be made.

"We are confident that, thanks to these changes, the vast majority of interactions between the state and business and between the state and citizens will be carried out in electronic format," emphasized the minister.

Nabiyev added that Azerbaijan's digital policy and innovation strategy for the coming years are defined by three main directions.

In this context, the minister highlighted the improvement of e-government and ensuring data accessibility for businesses as key directions.

"The third important aspect is the formation of a digital society, which contributes to more effective regulation of relations between the state and business, as well as between society and business," he emphasized.

To note, based on Decree No. 1464 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated October 11, 2021, the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and High Technologies was renamed the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport. The aim was to increase the implementation of digitalization and innovation in the country, develop radio spectrum management, communication, and information technologies, improve regulatory mechanisms, and create a healthy competitive environment.
