Khojali Justice international campaign has started in Turkey with the photo exhibition Khojali in the Eyes of Youth, organized by the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Youth Forum.
Exhibition of paintings about Khojali created by children and photos by young people from other countries that have acceded to the campaign will be held in the exhibition salon of Taksim metro station in Istanbul on Feb. 21 at 12:00. Members of parliament, representatives of ministries, heads of municipalities, researchers and media of Turkey will be attending the opening ceremony. Istanbul residents who use the metro station are expected to show great interest in the exhibition. The exhibition will run until Feb. 24, OIC Youth Forum Media Department said on Feb. 20.
International informational and agitation campaign Justice for Khojali was initiated by OIC Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation General Coordinator for Intercultural Dialogue Leyla Aliyeva and launched on May 8, 2008.
Official opening of the campaign will take place on Feb. 26, 1992. The campaign is aimed at bringing to the wider international community the truth about Khojali and agitating in this regard to inform the world community of the crimes against humanity that were committed in the town of Khojali on Feb. 26, 1992, give the offense a legal, political and human evaluation. On that day, the campaign will be started on an international level and its Web site (www.justiceforkhojaly.org) will be presented in Europe, the U.S. and many Asian capitals.
On the night of February 25, 1992, Armenian separatists seized the Khojali settlement in Nagorno-Karabakh. Within hours, over 600 unarmed Azerbaijani citizens were killed. Among them were 106 women and 83 children. The massacre continued for days, while the Armenian separatists killed their hostages and cut the heads off of Azerbaijani military personnel. A total of 487 people were left disabled and 1,275 people were taken prisoner. The fate of 150 people remains unknown.
