17th Anniversary of Armenia's Occupation of Azerbaijan Gubadly district

Today is the 17th anniversary of occupation of Azerbaijan's district of Gubadly by the armed forces of Armenia.

An area of 802 square kilometres with population about 30,000 people living in 94 settlements were occupied by Armenian military forces on Aug. 31, 1993.

Gubadly area is distinguished by its favourable geographic location, unique picturesque landscape, rocky and steep mountains, a special colouring attached turbulent rivers - Barkushad and Ackara.

During the defence of the district 283 volunteers heroically died and 7 of them were awarded the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan. People who survived now deployed in 47 regions of the republic. Most of them live in Sumgait.

Currently, under the heel of the enemies is about 14 thousand hectares of arable land, 62 institutions and enterprises, 10 houses of culture, dozens of schools, hospitals, facilities maintenance.
