The draft on the Nagorno-Karabakh Subcommittee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will be transferred to the Bureau of the Council of Europe (CoE), PACE President Movlud Cavusoglu said.
"We intend to re-establish the activities of the PACE Special Subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh. The PACE adopted a 1416 resolution on this conflict in 2005 and our aim is to implement the resolution within the subcommittee. The PACE Bureau also clearly expressed its position over the issue. The subcommittee functioned before, but it suspended its activities after the death of its chairman. In 2010, I met with both countries' delegations to the PACE, and since then we meet at each session. At the last meeting we agreed that the format of this meeting was expanded and each delegation was included deputies representing the opposition. Following these meetings, it was decided that the question will be submitted to the Bureau. The plenary session of the Bureau to be held on Friday will discuss this issue. The Bureau will make a decision to restore the activity of the subcommittee and appoint its chairman. The Subcommittee will resume the activities to be undertaken under the authority of the former Subcommittee," Cavusoglu said.
Cavusoglu expressed regret that some Armenian political leaders regard the establishment of the subcommittee as his personal project
"Unfortunately, some political leaders of Armenia claim that allegedly this project is my personal project. It is a misconception, and I have clarified this issue during my official visit to Yerevan. This is not a personal project, but the decision of the PACE," Cavusoglu said. "The chairman of the structure is allowed to submit the matter for consideration at the Bureau. This will be discussed at a meeting of the Bureau, which will be held on Friday.
"Yet, there is no nomination for the post of the subcommittee chairman. I have informed the leaders of political groups in the PACE and I think that at the meeting Bureau, will be elected a new objective chairman of the subcommittee, " he added.
