Azerbaijan and Armenia missed the “golden chance” for settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and today the world public pays less and less attention to the settlement of this matter, the vice-president of the European sector of the International Group on the Crisis Prevention (ICG) Alain Deletrouz said in a statement on 9 September at the news conference in Baku, Trend reports.

В"The most convenient period for the settlement of the Azerbaijani-Armenian conflict was on the eve of the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001 in the USA. It was the time when many world countries displayed readiness to allocate large amounts in case of the conflict settlement”, Deletrouz reminded, stressing that he arrived in the region to discuss the details of the report, prepared by ICG on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

В"Our report will enable to draw the attention of the whole world to the problems of the South Caucasus region”, Alain Deletrouz underlined, noting, the conflict’s solution is possible by only two ways: military, which is unacceptable and by a peaceful dialogue.

According to him, the ICG proposal implies “on the first stage liberation of the occupied areas of Azerbaijan around Nagorny Karabakh. The next stage, the most difficult one is definition of the Nagorny Karabakh status.

However, solution of the issue may be dragged out for 15-20 yearsВ", Deletrouz underlined, noting on 12-13 September he will discuss the proposals with the leadership of Armenia.

It should be reminded ICG is a Brussels-based international non-government organization, established in 1995. Known diplomats and international experts are members of the organization. According to the state on September 2005, ICG takes part in settlement of 44 conflicts worldwide.
