1,681,064 m2 Territories of Azerbaijan De-mined in January

De-mining has been carried out in an area of 1,681,064 m2 in Azerbaijan in January 2007. During this period, 7,520 mines and unexploded ammunition (PHS) have been discovered and rendered harmless, Trend reports referring to the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA).

Twenty-two dogs, 138 workers, 15 PHS operators, 8 first aid doctors and nearly 100 auxiliary employees have been involved in the clean-up programme.

During this period, an area of 43,272,195 m2 has been cleaned up in Azerbaijan. Approximately 105,647 mines and PHS has been discovered.

Since September 2001 some 51 people have died and 116 people received injuries as a result of 81 mine explosions.
