Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The Communist Party of Azerbaijan (CPA) does not consider the Social Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (SDPA) a social party, Rustam Shahsuvarov, the acting chairman of CPA, told Trend Agency on 9 October.

Earlier, Araz Alizedeh, the co-chairman of SDPA, said his party was the first and single social party in Azerbaijan. Relations of the population towards the left differed after the collapse of the Soviet Union. There are few socialist organizations in Azerbaijan. Agendas of political parties are based on the ideology of the left, the leader of the party considered.

Shahsuvarov said the SDPA moved away from its social ideologies and became one of the liberal parties.

"Alizadeh's statement that the SDPA is a social organization is wrong. We do not consider the party a social party", Shahsuvarov said.

The SDPA does not struggle for social justice and the welfare of citizens. The SDPA supports a liberal economy, Shasuvarov said.

The party adheres to communist ideologies founded before the Great October social revolution in 1903. The party was restored in 1993 after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The SDPA is a left wing Azerbaijani party. Ayaz Mutallibov, the former Azerbaijani President, is the head of the party. The SDPA is represented in the Socialist International
