Detained Suspects in Murder of Infamous Criminal To be Arrested

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / An arrest warrant will be issued on 28 November for those suspects who were detained on 27 November in Baku, in connection with the murder of an infamous criminal, Ragub Rustamov.

According to Rasim Gurbanov, an investigator in the Narimanov District Prosecutor's Office of Baku, Akif Sariyev and Alinur Sariyev will be arrested for leaving a person in danger and criminal charges of violating an official duty.

On 25 November, A man was shot in front of the restaurant Tongal on Hasan Aliyev Street. The victim was Ragub Rustamov, 45, a Russian citizen from the Azerbaijani region of Agdam.

The detainees are relatives of Rustamov, and were in the Tongal restaurant with him on the day of the incident. Alinur Sariyev's father, Chingiz Sariyev, was killed in Russia by unknown assailants on 15 February 2007. The reason for the Sariyevs meeting with Rustamov was to make it clear who killed Chingiz Sariyev. Rustamov left the restaurant and was shot from a white BMW that was driving past, which disappeared immediately thereafter.

The Narimanov District Prosecutor's Office filed a criminal case for premeditated homicide and the illegal gain, transfer, sale, possession, and transportation or carrying of firearms, according to the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

The victim was known in Russia as the notorious criminal 'Chechen Ruslan'. His murder was connected to his criminal activities and several attempts on his life had been made before, a source at law-enforcement bodies reported to Trend.

This is the third gun-related crime to take place in Baku in the last month. A member of the representation office of the unrecognized Republic of Chechnya in Azerbaijan, Imran Gaziyev, was killed in the district of Binagadi, and one man was killed and three others injured at a police station in Sabail District in an unrelated incident.
